B Nelson Designs
I have always loved jewelry and I have always been a tinkerer. I feel fortunate to work with malleable metals such as silver and gold. My inspirations are found in subtle moments and places and I take great pleasure in translating them into sophisticated designs.
With a background in apparel design, Barbara Nelson began working in metal after taking a basic class in 1991. While the concepts of fit, drape, and proportion guide what she designs, the creation of a piece of sculpture to wear is her driving force. Nelson is primarily self-taught and sometimes does things in unconventional ways producing a unique look. The use of mixed metals allows her to combine color, texture, and proportion in deceptively simple designs.
Nelson hand crafts each piece from sterling silver, 14k gold, copper and brass. Sheets of metal are cut into various shapes. The textures are hand stamped and the pieces are soldered then formed with hammers, mandrels and a hydraulic press. The pieces are oxidized and given a satin finish that is contemporary and is easy to maintain. Each piece is signed and limited editions are numbered.
